While working with some African nations we were asked to design a megawatt-class renewable energy generation facility that would supply 100% of the island’s electrical demand from renewable energy. When islands and developing nations begin to strengthen their grids (see Grid Stability) and think creatively, they can stop sending petro dollars out of the country and begin building wealth for their citizens.
Our solution includes over-sizing the wind farms and producing a type of ‘syn-fuel’ during periods of excess supply, which can be burned in converted diesel generators when the wind dies down.
This is just one of the creative solutions our sustainable energy engineers have provided to enable renewables to become ‘mainstream’ energy sources – instead of the ‘alternative’.
