Wind or Solar for Water
Using the wind or sun to provide energy to power desalination plants is a smart idea. Fresh water can be produced when the wind or solar resource is available, and then stored at a much lower cost than storing the electricity itself.

Flow-type batteries have a lower ’round trip’ efficiency, while Li-Ion chemistry requires ‘Augmentation’, or periodic replacement of a percentage of its cells every few years. Which is more cost effective? We use FOCUS to determine which type of system makes more money when the task is to ‘Arbitrage’ – to buy kilowatt-hours at low settlement prices and sell them when the prices are higher.
